Ford’s Colony Wine and Cheese Event – Sign up before February 22!

Colony Wine and Cheese is a series of  social gatherings held in the homes of  Ford’s Colony residents on designated  Sunday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m. No
membership is required to attend these parties.

The first event of the 2014 season is scheduled for March 2 (think Mardi Gras), with a deadline for sign-up of February 22.

These events are open to all Ford’s Colony residents. Guests are randomly assigned to host homes, and are asked to contribute $5 per person to cover the
cost of beverages and paper products. Each couple is asked to bring a heavy hors d’oeuvre that serves eight to ten people, and to provide serving plate/
utensils that will be taken home at the end of the evening.

Are you new to Ford’s Colony? Here’s the club for you!

The Newcomers Club is an active and exciting part of Ford’s Colony. It has informative and fun programs and activities to help members make new friends and get to know Ford’s Colony and the Williamsburg area.  Join the club Friday, February 21, when the guest speaker will be Dr. Anna Holloway from the Mariners’ Museum. She will be speaking about the Battle of Hampton Roads (1862), between the Merrimack and the Monitor.

Newcomers Club meets at 6:45 p.m. at the S&T Club. Refreshments will be served and you can sign up for club activities such as book groups, BYOB,
lunch groups, Wine and Cheese, and Wine and Dine. Mark your calendar for the February 21 meeting.

The annual Ford’s Colony Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, March 15th, 8 a.m. to noon at Historic Triangle Community Center, 312 Waller Mill Road.

Ford’s Colony Pilates for Seniors

The Ford’s Colony Pilates for Seniors club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30pm at the S&T Club.  Pilates is designed to help individuals of all ages and fitness levels improve body functions such as posture, breathing, balance, flexibility and is a way to relieve pain.

The new leader, Alona Casanave, is a certified Body Art and Science International Pilates Instructor.  She demonstrates and uses a hands-on approach to ensure that participants can feel the difference between correct and incorrect Pilates movements.  She is a firm believer in educating each members of the class and has a passion for helping individuals to help themselves.

Ford’s Colony Model Railroad Club at the JCC Library this weekend.

The Ford’s Colony Model Railroad Club will be participating in the annual Train Show this weekend (December 7-8) at the James City County Library in Norge.  This year’s show will include G, Lionel O, two-rail O, HO, HOn3 and N Scale operating railroads.  If you are looking for a chance to escape the rain this weekend, this looks like a great outing.

Grand Illumination 2013 is almost here!

Starting with the Christmas Parade, Saturday, December 7th at 9am and concluding with fireworks Sunday, December 8th at 7pm, this is a full weekend of fun in Williamsburg.

On Sunday, gather for musical performances from multiple stages throughout the Revolutionary City. You’re sure to find something to keep you entertained as you wait for the evening’s highlight.  Don’t miss the Fifes and Drums performances!

Save the Date for the Ford’s Colony Blood Drive – December 13, 2013.

The need for blood is exceptionally high this time of year.  Ford’s Colony is trying to reach a goal of over 70 pints of blood during the drive on December 13th.  They will be raffling many items off that day in an effort to increase the nuber of pints collected.  Each person who donates will be awarded one raffle ticket. Each person that calls 258-4270 to make an appointment will receive an additional raffle ticket. You can also receive an additional raffle ticket for each person that you get to donate that day. There is no limit to the amount of raffle tickets you can collect, so bring your friends and family!

Prizes will range from Red Cross gift bags, Red Cross tee shirts, Red Cross cookbooks, and some special prizes donated by local vendors! Please call to make your appointment. Each pint collected can help as many as three people in need.  The blood drive will take place at the S&T Club.

Ford’s Colony’s Got Talent!

Take note, Simon Cowell!!  No absconding with Ford’s Colony’s best!  “Ford’s Colony Has Talent” will be presented for one night only on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the Swim & Tennis Club, 7:30 pm.
Auditions for this stupendous talent show featuring all types of entertainment, will be held on Saturday, November 23 from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the Swim & Tennis Club.   We’re calling all talented adults and children twelve and over to showcase your talent.  If you can’t come the morning of the 23rd, call Ann King (229-0260) to arrange another time.

Are you a ventriloquist. . . play “Swanee River’ on a washboard. . . do card tricks with the audience?     Entertainers of all description, are encouraged to audition, and have fun.

An accompanist will be on hand to play for singers, dancers, and anyone else who might need her expertise.  Please bring your own sheet music.  If you do not have the sheet music, please contact the director, Ann King, 229-0260, and we will try to find it.

Two rehearsals will be held Sat. January 4th and Sat. January 11, 2014 at the S&T Club.

And, don’t forget the November 12th Theatre Club show:  “William the Conjuror”,  exciting magic show performed by William Penn Russell, performer of mystery, sleight of hand, card tricks and other unexplainable illusions.  Curtain at 7:30, admission $8 members, $10 non members and $3 children 12 and under.  Open to all, refreshments.

Friends and Neighbors Event this Friday

Today’s library is not the same library we grew up with as kids.  This Friday, November 1st at 6:45pm at the S&T, our guest for the Friends and Neighbors event will be Dr. John Moorman, the Library Director of the Williamsburg Regional Library.  Dr. Moorman has served libraries for 38 year and has been a library director in four states.  His topic will be; “Williamsburg Regional Library; Today, Tomorrow and in the Future”.  With this economic climate, libraries play a more significant role in everyday life than ever before.  Come and hear an interesting and informative talk.  All Ford’s Colony residents are invited.

Calling all Dog Lovers!

All Ford’s Colony residents are invited to come to the Dog Owners Interest Group meeting tonight at 7:00pm at the S&T Club.  Our speaker will be Dr. Bonnie Brown, veterinarian from the Jolly Pond Veterinary Hospital.  She will discuss the most frequently asked questions of dog owners and the possible solutions.  The Golden Retriever breed will be highlighted at this meeting.
